Linking Opportunities and Awards to Existing Pursuits

How and why to associate related opportunities and awards to your existing pursuits

Pipelines on GovTribe contain Pursuits, and each Pursuit represents an individual Opportunity at some stage of the business development process. You create Pursuits in Pipelines by clicking the Add to Pipeline button on any Opportunity from an Opportunity Search Page or on the Opportunity's Detail page -- or by creating a "blank" Pursuit from within a Pipeline. (See Step 2: Add Pursuits to Your Pipeline for more details.)

In this way, normally each Pursuit represents a single Opportunity that you are pursuing. However, sometimes it's useful to link additional Opportunities to a Pursuit, as described in this document.

Linking Opportunities to Existing Pursuits

Linking an Opportunity to an existing Pursuit in one of your Pipelines can be helpful in the following instances:

  • You have an existing Pursuit that is a re-compete opportunity that you created from an Award. The new solicitation was just released, and you wish to link the recently released Opportunity to your existing Pursuit.

  • You have an existing Pursuit that was originally created from an Opportunity in the Pre-solicitation stage. The government has now released the Solicitation, but it came out as a separate notice under a new solicitation number, and you wish to link the new Opportunity record to the existing Pursuit.

Linking essentially causes two Opportunities to be associated with and managed under a single Pursuit.

To link an Opportunity to a Pursuit:

Step 1. Locate the Opportunity that you would like to link.

Find Opportunities on the following pages: Federal Contract Opportunities Federal Grant Opportunities

Step 2. For Federal Contract Opportunities click the Create Pursuit button, followed by Add to Existing Pursuit. Finally select the appropriate Pursuit in the list provided.

For Federal Grant Opportunities click the Link to Pursuit button. From here select the appropriate pursuit in the list provided.

The Link Pursuit button appears in the lower right corner of each Opportunity listed on in the search results view of any search page as well as in the upper right corner of the Opportunity’s detail page.

Step 3. In the resulting Link Pursuit modal, indicate how you would like to link the Award, based on the information contained in the Award you are linking.

  • Click Overwrite on any property you wish to replace with the new information.

  • Click Merge if a given property allows for multiple values in it. (If Merge is not allowed it will be grayed out.)

Step 4. Click OK. The Activity Feed on the Pursuit will update to show you the changes.

When you view the Pursuit the linked Opportunity record now appears in the Opportunities tab.

The relationship between the Opportunity and the Pursuit is also displayed on the Award page itself, as shown below. You can click this button to view details about the linked Opportunity:

Linking an Award to an Existing Pursuit

The most common reason for linking an Award to an existing Pursuit is when your Pursuit is a follow-on requirement to, or a recompete of, an existing contract or grant. Linking the GovTribe’s Award record of that existing contract to your Pursuit provides context for your current bid efforts, and improves the fidelity of the Likely Bidders projections GovTribe provides within your Pursuit.

To link an Award to a Pursuit:

Step 1. Locate the Opportunity or Award that you would like to link.

Step 2. Click the Link Pursuit button, and select the appropriate Pursuit in the list provided.

The Link Pursuit button appears in the lower right corner of each Award listed on in the search results view of any search page as well as in the upper right corner of the Award’s detail page.

Step 3. In the resulting Link Pursuit pop-up window, indicate how you would like to link the Award, based on the information contained in the Award you are linking.

  • Click Overwrite on any property you wish to replace with the new information.

  • Click Merge if a given property allows for multiple values in it. (If Merge is not allowed it will be grayed out.)

Step 4. Click OK. The Activity Feed on the Pursuit will update to show you the changes.

When you view the Pursuit, the Award record now appears in the Recompetes tab.

The relationship between the Award and the Pursuit is also displayed on the Award page itself, as shown below. You can click this button to view details:

Other members on your team will also see the Pursuit badge and list of Pursuits dropdown, making it easy to navigate from an Award or Opportunity page to the Pursuits. This also provides a visual cue that someone on your team is already pursuing this opportunity.

You can have multiple Pursuits that reference the same Opportunity or Award.
